As a child, I watched old black and white horror movies late at night when I couldn’t sleep. I liked looking through art books about the Renaissance and Dark Ages and the paintings of saints and their agonies. I read the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales, which were dark and beautiful. I wanted to emulate the lighting and style of the Renaissance and Victorian Romantic painters. I don't think I've changed much. The paintings exist before I make them. It is my job to make them visible. The only control I have is to pay attention, be prepared to work, and then work. I am self-taught, so I probably do everything the hard way. I try to learn and improve everyday.
